Visas are required for US citizens to enter Vietnam. If you need assistance getting visas, feel free to reach out.
Airports
These are the main international airports in Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh City (South): Tan Son Nhat Airport.
Da Nang (Central): Danang International Airport.
Ha Noi (North): Noi Bai International Airport.
Accommodation
The best location to book hotel/Airbnb is District 1. This is the center of Ho Chi Minh City, where you can explore Ben Thanh Market, shopping malls, restaurants, quan nhau (local beer clubs), spa, salons, etc. You name it, District 1 has it. From my personal experience, Expedia offers better deals than other websites from Vietnam.
Transportation
Instead of Lyft/Uber, they use Grab in Vietnam. Grab bike and car are available. They will have helmet ready for you if you choose to use Grab bike. You can pay with cash or card.
If you are travelling to another city, beside flying, sleeper bus is also a good option.
Weather
It will be in the high 90s with high chances of rain throughout July. You will need thin layer clothes, hat, sunscreen, and maybe poncho.
Money/Currency
They use Vietnamese Dong (VND) in Vietnam. Most places do accept cards. Please make sure your credit card is a travel card so you don't get charged for foreign fee. If you have to exchange currency, jewelry stores will give you better rate than local banks.
Network/Sim card
Your phone service might still be available for roaming in Vietnam, but you'll need a Vietnamese phone number to sign up for Grab. Mobifone and Viettel are the two reputable mobile services there.
